| About Us | |
| A
special welcome if you are thinking about walking with us for
the first time: The Ramblers Association is a charity whose aims are to encourage walking, to protect rights of way and to defend the beauty of the countryside for the benefit of all. 'Ramblers' have local groups throughout the country. Bury St Edmunds Group was formed in 1977 and we offer an extensive choice of walks for different abilities and a number of social events. Although our programme is intended primarily for Ramblers members we are very happy for non-members to join us as our guests for a few of our led walks before joining Ramblers. (Please click here for joining details.) Membership entitles you to walk with any Ramblers group. All walks are FREE, but please be prepared for occasional public car park charges imposed since going to print. |

| Notes for new walkers and a few reminders for our regulars | |
|
Though walking is inherently one of the safest outdoor
activities, no activity is completely without risk and there is
an individual responsibility to behave sensibly and to minimise
the potential for accidents to occur. Please make sure you are
fit enough for the walks you intend to join. If youre unsure of
your fitness level try one of our short and easy walks first.
Leaders may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion
are inadequately equipped or unfit. Walkers are responsible for providing their own first-aid equipment The group encourages car-sharing whenever possible and walks leaders might be able to advise about a lift if required. Drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards travel costs incurred. Please aim to arrive at the meeting point 5 10 minutes before the time given in the programme. This allows time for changing footwear, introductions and a few words about the walk. Walks take off promptly at the published time. In extreme weather please check with leader that the walk will take place. Routes are not always suitable for dogs so please check with leader prior to the walk. If it is appropriate to bring dogs please keep them on a short lead. Most of our walks are off-road in rural areas. Please have suitable footwear and clothing for the walk you intend to join; bring some food and drink even if there is a planned pub-stop as food might not be available on the day. It is a privilege to use a Public House Car Park and we should not consume our own refreshments on pub premises unless by special arrangement. Please maintain good walking discipline in relation to all other road users. Do not walk ahead of the leader except by arrangement and make sure that the back-marker knows if you are leaving the walk at any stage. Please always observe the Countryside Code. ![]() Happy and healthy walking! |
